Tagged destination

UTM parameters tell analytics where visits came from. Existing non-UTM query parameters and URL fragments stay intact; matching UTM parameters are replaced.

How to use this tool

Use source for the origin of traffic, medium for the type of channel and campaign for the initiative you want to compare. Optional term and content can separate keywords or creative variants. Consistent naming makes campaign reports easier to read later.

Paste a complete HTTP or HTTPS destination URL. This tool preserves unrelated query parameters and fragments, replaces matching UTM keys and encodes values safely. Test the finished link yourself before using it in an ad.

  • Enter the landing page URL.
  • Set source, medium and campaign using a consistent naming scheme.
  • Add content and term values if you use them.
  • Copy the finished link and paste it into the ad destination field.

Worked example

A link for a Meta spring sale might use source facebook, medium paid_social and campaign spring_sale. Using paid social in one ad and paid_social in another splits your reports into two rows.

Illustrative example, not a benchmark, customer result or prediction.

Assumptions and review notes

Good UTM tagging is boring and consistent. Lowercase, no spaces, and a short written convention shared by everyone who builds ads. Do not put personal data in URLs. Write the convention in a shared note with one example link, and check a few real links in your analytics a day after launch to confirm they arrive as expected. If your analytics tool already reads platform auto tagging, test before overriding it, because two tagging systems on one link can disagree and leave you with traffic that appears under the wrong source.

  • Naming consistency.
  • Your analytics setup.
  • Platform auto tagging.
  • Link length.
  • Mixing capitals and spaces.
  • Putting personal data in parameters.
  • Overwriting platform tags without checking.
  • Changing names mid campaign.
