Ad naming convention generator

Build consistent ad names from product, market, objective, audience, format, angle and variant.

Last updated

Allowed fields: product_market_objective_audience_format_angle_variant. Reorder or omit fields; no arbitrary expressions. Example product_market_variant → everyday-bottle_uk_01. Blank values are also omitted without doubled separators.

Consistent ad name

everyday-bottle_uk_sales_commuters_video_refill-routine_01

Selected pattern: product_market_objective_audience_format_angle_variant. Keep personal information out of names. This output stays in your browser and is not put in the URL.

How to use this tool

Start with the visible example, then replace the fields with your actual brief or reporting labels. Review the output with the person who will use it. Copy or download before leaving the page, as entered text is not saved. Reset restores the original example. No text or personal data is added to a share URL.

  • Choose the parts you want in a name, such as date, product, angle and format.
  • Pick a separator and order.
  • Generate names for your campaign, ad set and ad.
  • Write the convention down and share it.

Worked example

The example bottle campaign becomes everyday-bottle_uk_sales_commuters_video_refill-routine_01. Keep the order stable across variants. Use a short angle label instead of the entire ad script. Record changes in a shared dictionary so another person can interpret the report.

What this tool does

A predictable name helps a small team join creative files with performance reports. The generator normalises each field to lowercase letters, numbers and hyphens, then joins fields with underscores. It does not create a campaign or alter Ads Manager. Treat the output as an internal label, not a tracking replacement. Keep source, medium and campaign rules separate in your UTM builder.

Assumptions and review notes

A good convention is short, consistent and readable by someone new. Consistency matters more than which scheme you pick.

  • Team size.
  • Number of products.
  • Reporting needs.
  • Platform name length limits.
  • Changing the scheme mid year.
  • Using spaces and capitals inconsistently.
  • Names too long to read.
  • Not documenting it.
