These are selected placements, not a complete list of accepted formats. “Recommended” is creative guidance, not a platform acceptance rule. “Minimum” denotes a documented technical floor. Confirm your chosen campaign objective and placement in the platform editor before exporting or publishing.

How to use this tool

An image with the right composition is easier to adapt than one cut to an arbitrary rectangle. Start with the destination placement, then check whether its suggested aspect ratio suits your product and the amount of copy you need on the image.

This reference separates suggested dimensions from technical minimums. TikTok’s entry describes a video placement and cannot be exported as a still image here. Google responsive search ads use text assets; the image entries here are for responsive display ads instead.

Sources were checked on 2026-09-28. Platforms can change specifications by objective, placement, location and account. Always verify the final creative in the platform editor.

  • Choose the platform and placement you are making creative for.
  • Read the recommended ratio, pixel size and file limits.
  • Create your artwork at the largest listed size so it scales down cleanly.
  • Check the platform page for the current figure before final export, as specifications change.

Worked example

A square 1:1 feed image and a vertical 9:16 story image need different compositions, not just different crops. If you only have one landscape photo, crop for each placement and check that the product and text still sit inside the visible area.

Illustrative example, not a benchmark, customer result or prediction.

Assumptions and review notes

A good set of ad sizes covers the placements you actually buy and keeps key content away from edges. Specifications are reference points, and platforms change them, so use the date shown and confirm in the source.

  • Placement and format.
  • Platform updates.
  • File size and type limits.
  • Text overlay rules.
  • Using one size for every placement.
  • Putting text in areas covered by interface elements.
  • Uploading at too low a resolution.
  • Trusting an old specification without checking.

A closer look

Common questions.

What size should a Meta feed image be?
Check the table for the current recommendation. A square or 4:5 ratio is common but platforms update their guidance.
Do I need a separate size for stories?
Usually yes. Vertical placements need composition designed for them.
What file types are accepted?
This is listed per format in the table, with a link to the source.
Why do specs change?
Platforms update layouts and devices, so confirm before a big production run.
What is a safe zone?
An area clear of interface overlays. See the safe zone tool for stories and reels.
