How can a finance-product ad explain a benefit without burying the risks?
Plan a review of benefits, risks and qualifications before publishing a UK financial product ad.
Read the ad as a whole
A short headline, a chart, a creator anecdote and the destination page can together imply a financial outcome. List what someone might reasonably believe about returns, eligibility, charges and risk after seeing the ad. Do not turn a single customer experience into a predicted outcome for others.
The FCA’s guidance on financial promotions on social media explains that communications should be fair, clear and not misleading and that relevant risks should be balanced with benefits. Requirements vary by product, channel and firm status. Have a properly qualified person assess the particular promotion and any approval obligations before publishing.
- Identify every express and implied outcome.
- Check risk, cost and eligibility information for prominence.
- Check the product and audience restrictions for each platform.
- Keep the approved version and destination for audit.
Brief for understanding, not excitement alone
Instead of an unqualified “Grow your money faster”, a creative brief can ask which product feature and risk can be explained accurately within the format. If the format cannot make material information clear, change the format or do not run that concept. Avoid invented balances, screenshots or success stories.
Meta has separate policies for financial and insurance products and prohibited financial products. Platform acceptance is not a legal sign-off, and a regulatory review is not a guarantee of platform acceptance. This guide is a planning checklist, not financial or legal advice or a declaration that an ad is compliant.
Common questions
- Can a risk statement go only on the landing page?
- Do not assume so. A qualified reviewer should assess the promotion as seen in the ad, including whether important risks and qualifications need to be prominent there.
